My teaching philosophy

My teaching philosophy is centred on creating a classroom environment where students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to engage meaningfully with creative learning. I believe art education should provide students with opportunities to think independently, communicate ideas visually, and develop confidence through exploration and making.

Through my experiences across mainstream and AEN settings, I have developed an understanding of the importance of adaptability, reflection, and responsiveness within teaching practice. I aim to create learning experiences that are both structured and flexible, allowing students with different strengths, abilities, and ways of learning to participate fully and develop at their own pace.

I value reflection as an essential part of both teaching and learning, continually developing my practice through observation, collaboration, research, and professional experience. By encouraging discussion, experimentation, and critical engagement within the classroom, I aim to support students in developing not only artistic skills, but also confidence, curiosity, and independent thinking.

Teaching & learning in     practice : Units of Learning

This section explores a range of Units of Learning designed to support creative thinking, artistic development, and meaningful student engagement within the art classroom.

Inclusive Teaching in Practice

Here, I share work developed during my AEN placement at Holy Family School for the Deaf, reflecting my approach to inclusive art education through visual communication, demonstration, and creative learning experiences.

Extra Curriculars

Alongside my classroom teaching practice, I have also supported extra-curricular creative activities within the school environment, including helping to facilitate Art Club and Animation Club. These experiences allowed students to engage with creativity in a more collaborative and informal setting, encouraging experimentation, creative confidence, and enjoyment beyond the classroom.

As a lens-based artist, I am also particularly interested in developing photography-based opportunities within schools in the future. I would love to establish a Photography Club that encourages students to explore visual storytelling, self-expression, and observation through photography, while giving them the opportunity to document the world around them from their own unique perspectives
