The core of my creative research

My research investigates the vital role of peer learning in fostering creativity, engagement, and skill development within the secondary school art classroom. This exploration aims to uncover how students learn from each other in supportive and impactful ways.

Connecting research to practice

This research closely links to both my teaching and artistic practice. It examines how collaboration, discussion, and shared creative experiences encourage students to learn from one another. I aim to understand how these collaborative environments build confidence, strengthen communication, and make creative learning engaging and accessible for all students, regardless of their abilities or learning styles.

Highlighted research projects

One project that truly stood out was a paired mind-mapping activity based on the theme "From Farm to Table". Students collaboratively developed creative concepts for book cover designs, building on each other's ideas. I observed how collaborative discussion encouraged them to move beyond initial ideas and embrace experimentation and creative risk-taking.

I was also very proud of the scaffolded peer feedback activities developed throughout the project. Over time, students gained confidence in giving constructive feedback, discussing visual decisions, and critically reflecting on their own work and that of others. Witnessing their growth in confidence, participation, and creative independence was incredibly rewarding.

My approach to research

What makes my approach to creative research unique is its direct connection to both classroom practice and creative inquiry. My research is grounded in real learning experiences, exploring how collaboration, discussion, and reflective making can support creativity, confidence, and engagement within the art classroom.

I am particularly interested in research that values student voice and interaction, using creative and process-led approaches to understand how students learn, communicate, and develop through art. By combining practical teaching experience with reflective observation and creative exploration, my research aims to make learning more collaborative, accessible, and truly meaningful.
